Green Modular Homes

Building green is gold and blue ...ENERGY STAR® blue.

Did you know that your home can be a greater source of pollution than your car?
About 17% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions are generated from the energy used in houses nationwide.

Did you know that our custom designed modular homes are ENERGY STAR plant certified?
What better way to build a sustainable, high performance home at builder direct prices, than to build in a controlled environment with green modular homes as the end result! Learn more about our unique program that allows you to save thousands over a conventional build method.

Energy Efficient Modular Homes…
Healthier …Sustainable materials…High performance …. Because our custom modular homes are constructed in a climate controlled environment, they are less prone to mold. The materials used in the construction of our green modular homes have been well stored and are not subjected to the elements as is always the case on typical stick built sites, so the overall air quality of the finished home starts out healthier. Our green modular homes are better sealed and insulated improving your overall energy performance and lowering energy costs. State-of-the-art building facilities allow our homes to be energy sealed in areas that would be physically impossible to seal or insulate on a site built home.

2 x 6 walls with R-19 insulation. R-38 ceiling insulation and Low E windows that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR criteria are all standard.
What does this mean for you? Heating and cooling bills account for at least half of the energy use in the home. What better way to cut your overall energy expenses than to take steps during the construction of your home that will benefit you for years to come? Environmentally-minded individuals will be pleased to know that the method in which we build our green modular homes minimizes building waste and utilizes sustainable construction materials. Pre-built components including trusses and pre-hung doors allow a more efficient use of raw materials while oriented strand board (OSB) used to sheathe roofs and walls is an engineered wood product that comes from fast growth forests.

Energy Efficient Modular Home Designs…
Conserve energy… help the planet. The bigger picture in reducing a home’s energy needs means designing and building a high-performance, green modular home first. Lowering the energy demand as much as possible by including passive solar techniques first and then adding solar hot water, PV, wind, geothermal, and other efficient heating and cooling options will help you to achieve lower energy requirements right off the bat. Combining standard features of the manufacturing process with our energy efficient modular home designs will reward you with the knowledge that you are doing your part to promote a healthy planet for generations to come.

Did you know that CMD has an in house design service that will work with you to create an energy efficient modular home plan that will best meet your design criteria?
Our designs section showcases many homes, all of which can be customized to your needs and ideas. Have something in mind that you may not see on our site? Query us about it. We may have already designed something similar -or give us your sketch and we can go from there. Remember, working with your site and climate is step number one. Just small design ideas are extremely valuable in an energy-efficient home. Are you located in the south? Could you incorporate wide roof overhangs on the south/ southwest side to avoid overheating in the latter part of the day? How about a lighter colored roof or a reflective metal roof? In cooler climates, minimizing windows on the west and north sides of the house coupled with a tight building envelope utilizing high R-value insulation should be the first consideration. Energy efficient modular home plans designed for you, to work with your site, not against it should be the rule, not the exception.

Build Energy Efficient Homes right from the start…
And the rewards will constantly increase. There will come a time when the costs to install PV and renewables will equal the cost of utility rates. Although the investment for these systems may cost more to install now, in the long run the savings will be far greater. In the meantime, federal tax credits exist for qualified systems and some states have mandated utility rebates to encourage renewable systems and energy-efficient use. Visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) at to see what incentives your state may offer.

Do the math… green modular homes equal your best investment for your future and for generations to come.
